Multigenerational consequences of aphid size on offspring phenotype and reproduction

چکیده

In many organisms, phenotype and fitness are strongly influenced by both current environmental factors maternal effects. The low genetic variation, high phenotypic plasticity, telescoping generations seen in aphids permit us to investigate the relative importance potential interaction of environments on phenotype. Although past studies have identified an influence host plant offspring reproduction aphids, few demonstrated for these effects also interact with aphid's environment. By rearing multiple Aphis nerii (Fonscolombe) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) their common milkweed, Asclepias syriaca (L.) (Apocynaceae), we tested crowding quality aphid body size reproduction. Our results indicate that increased decreased density generations, additional direct, positive relationship between fecundity. We did not find evidence adaptive effects, e.g., production fewer, larger, stressed mothers. Instead, poor constrained Importantly, adverse were only where subsequent nymph population growth was allowed increase unchecked, likely reducing available resources. study thus demonstrates significance development can depend resource availability, shaping fecundity under stressful conditions. Incorporating this framework how respond may improve predictions is impacted limitation across generations.

language learning strategies and vocabulary size of iranian efl learners

learning a second or foreign language requires the manipulation of four main skills, namely, listening, reading, speaking, and writing which lead to effective communication. it is obvious that vocabulary is an indispensible part of any communication, so without a vocabulary, no meaningful communication can take place and meaningful communication relies heavily on vocabulary. one fundamental fac...

A fitness trade-off between seasons causes multigenerational cycles in phenotype and population size

Although seasonality is widespread and can cause fluctuations in the intensity and direction of natural selection, we have little information about the consequences of seasonal fitness trade-offs for population dynamics. Here we exposed populations of Drosophila melanogaster to repeated seasonal changes in resources across 58 generations and used experimental and mathematical approaches to inve...

A multigenerational effect of parental age on offspring size but not fitness in common duckweed (Lemna minor).

Classic theories on the evolution of senescence make the simplifying assumption that all offspring are of equal quality, so that demographic senescence only manifests through declining rates of survival or fecundity. However, there is now evidence that, in addition to declining rates of survival and fecundity, many organisms are subject to age-related declines in the quality of offspring produc...

Manipulating developmental stress reveals sex-specific effects of egg size on offspring phenotype.

The general lack of experimental evidence for strong, positive effects of egg size on offspring phenotype has led to suggestions that avian egg size is a neutral trait. To better understand the functional significance of intra-specific variation in egg size as a determinant of offspring fitness within a life-history (sex-specific life-history strategies) and an environmental (poor rearing condi...

Facultative Symbiont Infections Affect Aphid Reproduction

Some bacterial symbionts alter their hosts reproduction through various mechanisms that enhance their transmission in the host population. In addition to its obligatory symbiont Buchnera aphidicola, the pea aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum harbors several facultative symbionts influencing several aspects of host ecology. Aphids reproduce by cyclical parthenogenesis whereby clonal and sexual reproducti...
